New Boxes, Unexpected Validation - SlideEdgeV1
Share
It has been another busy week at DockedByDesign.
The new packaging for the 15/16” models arrived, and they work exactly as intended. Several units have already been shipped in the updated boxes. I’ll share photos soon - small operational upgrades like this are part of building something long-term.
This week’s orders also showed something encouraging: there’s real demand for the V2. That kind of validation matters. It confirms that improving rigidity, hardware, and detail wasn’t just iteration - it was the right move.
With the upcoming M5 Pro and Max models expected to support Thunderbolt 5, I’ll be expanding compatibility there as well once I can get access to the devices. The goal remains unchanged: future-proof docking solutions without compromising simplicity.
SlideShelfV1 (Paused) → SlideEdgeV1 (Born)
I was planning to continue development on SlideShelfV1 this week.
Instead, I shelved it.
The reason is simple: not everyone wants their laptop mounted underneath their desk.
Some setups don’t have enough depth.
Some users don’t want to give up legroom.
Others simply prefer their MacBook to remain visible and accessible.
There are edge-mounted laptop holders on the market — but none of them follow the DockedByDesign DNA:
It has to slide.
It has to dock.
It has to feel intentional.
That’s where SlideEdgeV1 comes in.
Introducing: SlideEdgeV1
SlideEdgeV1 is designed for users who want a clean desk, but don’t want their device hidden underneath it.
It mounts:
- On the left side of your desk
- Or on the back-left edge
Functionally, it mirrors the SlideUnderV1:
- Dual 40Gbps passthrough support
- Ventilation for exhaust airflow
- Clean cable routing
The mount itself is secured underneath the desk with screws.
The MacBook slides in from the edge — preserving the DockedByDesign sliding interaction.
It’s edge-mounted.
But it still docks.
Design Details That Matter
The small decisions are what make the difference.
- Insertion protection – You cannot insert the MacBook vertically and hit the USB connectors. The design forces insertion from at least 2cm from the back.
- Depth control – An internal indent prevents the rubber feet from sliding too far back unless the laptop is fully seated.
- Structural integrity – Designed around three screws in a triangular formation. Even early tests using only two screws show impressive rigidity. It holds firm under intentional downward force.
- Hardware continuity – Uses a modified washer originally developed for SlideUnderV2.
SlideEdgeV1 is not just a bracket.
It’s an engineered docking experience.
Who It’s For
SlideEdgeV1 is built for:
- Minimalists who want their desk clean but their MacBook visible
- Users with limited desk depth
- Setups where under-desk mounting reduces legroom
- People who still want full-speed passthrough without clutter
It offers the same performance — just a different placement philosophy.
What’s Next
This week I’ll continue fine-tuning the MacBook Pro 14” version. If testing goes as planned, SlideEdgeV1 should be available this weekend.
Even though it uses more material and takes longer to produce, I’m pricing it equal to SlideUnder. The choice should depend on your setup — not on cost differences.
If SlideEdgeV1 sounds like it fits your workspace better, keep an eye on the store this weekend.
More updates soon.
