SlideShelfV1 (Dock, Riser and Stand)

For a while now, I’ve been thinking about a different take on the SlideUnderV1 concept. Instead of sliding the MacBook in from the side, what if it could slide in along the long edge of the laptop?

That idea kept coming back - and recently, while I was working on a shelf leg system, it clicked again.

Why SlideShelfV1 exists

One limitation I started to notice with SlideUnderV1 has nothing to do with the product itself — but with desks.

On shallower desks, especially when using a MacBook Pro 14” or 16”, the total depth adds up quickly:

  • MacBook depth

  • Plus 16.6 mm depth of the dock

  • Plus clearance and cable bend

For some setups, that simply becomes too deep, especially on compact desks or desks with a shelf or monitor riser already installed.

By sliding the MacBook in via the long edge instead of the short edge, SlideShelfV1 saves approximately 9 cm of desk depth.
That difference makes this dock viable for desks where SlideUnderV1 would otherwise not fit comfortably.

So SlideShelfV1 isn’t a replacement — it exists because some desks demand a different geometry.

Where the idea started (again)

While designing modular desk shelves and risers, I realised something:
there are plenty of desk shelves and monitor risers on the market, but almost all of them force you into their material, their colour, and their style.

Wood that doesn’t match your desk.
Metal that clashes with your setup.
Finishes that are “almost” right — but not quite.

That’s when the idea for SlideShelfV1 really took shape.

A different type of MacBook dock

SlideShelfV1 is designed for the MacBook Pro 14” and works a bit differently than SlideUnderV1:

  • You slide the MacBook in from the long side

  • Once it’s in place, you slide it to the left to connect the USB-C ports

  • The motion is deliberate, simple, and keeps cables hidden and clean

Right now, I already have early prototypes, and if everything goes to plan, I’m aiming to have it ready in say 2 weeks.

Two versions, one system

At the moment, I’m working towards three versions of SlideShelfV1:

1. Mountable version
This version can be mounted:

  • Under a desk

  • Under a desk shelf

  • Under a monitor riser

Perfect if you already use a shelf or want everything hidden.

2. Riser version (with legs)
This version will have its own legs and a height of approximately 10 cm.
It’s meant to function as a compact dock and a structural element on your desk.

3.  Mountable Riser version
This will is the Riser version but has mounting holes so you can create a custom deskshelf. Additional Legs (SlideShelfV1 - Stand) will be available to create desk shelfs of say 60 to 120cm.

Why shelves should match your desk — not the other way around

The key idea behind SlideShelfV1 is flexibility.

Instead of buying a desk shelf made from someone else’s wood, metal, or colour choice, you can:

  • Choose your own shelf material (wood, plywood, metal, etc.)

  • Match it perfectly to your desk

  • Combine it with the SlideShelfV1 – Riser

  • Optionally add a SlideShelfV1 - Stand (single-leg supports)

This allows you to build a custom desk shelf between 60–120 cm wide, using materials that actually belong in your workspace.

What’s next

SlideShelfV1 is still in the prototype phase, but the direction feels right:

  • Modular

  • Clean

  • Customizable

  • Built around real desk setups, not generic ones

I’ll be sharing more updates soon as the prototype evolves into a finished product.

If you’re building a desk setup where details matter — this one’s for you. It's 339,9cm wide and 24cm deep.
