SlideUnder Pro Crossbar LiveπŸš€, New Boxes, USB4 Cables & More | DockedByDesign

A lot has been happening. Here's the full update.

SlideUnder Pro Crossbar β€” now live.

A few customers reached out β€” on the website and on Etsy β€” about a crossbar running underneath their desk. It's a structural beam that sits right where the SlideUnder would normally mount, and for those people, the standard setup simply doesn't work.

It turns out this is more common than I expected. So I made it a proper product.

The SlideUnder Pro Crossbar is designed for desks where the space from the front edge to the crossbar is 23cm, and the crossbar height is 5cm. Thanks to the sloped design, the back of the mount hovers over the crossbar β€” no modifications needed. Available now for MacBook Pro 14" and 16". Standard Crossbar versions β€” covering Air and Pro models β€” will follow when I've sorted the packaging for them.

Packaging update.

I now have three custom boxes. Box 1 covers the SlideUnder 15" and 16". Box 2 covers the SlideUnder 13" and 14". Box 3 covers the SlideEdge and SlideWall β€” and I've designed a custom inlay so the SlideEdge sits properly inside it. The inlay is currently being made by the supplier.

The Crossbar Edition is a different shape entirely. I'm still figuring out whether it warrants its own box, or whether Box 1 and 2 can be adjusted in height to accommodate it. I want to see how much demand there is before committing to custom packaging for it.

3-metre USB4 cables are now online.

They're currently in bulk packaging while I test whether customers actually want them alongside the mounts. I've already designed packaging for both 2m and 3m cables and I'm looking for the right supplier. The 2m option is still in the works.

A note on screws.

After more than 170 units shipped, I received feedback that a MacBook got scratched during installation. The screw on the SlideUnder Standard sits just under 1mm below the surface of the dock β€” there's a fine balance between going too deep and damaging the frame, and not going deep enough and risking contact with the MacBook.

I've since updated the warning on the essentials bag to make the installation instructions clearer, and the new screws I've been working on should help prevent this going forward. One case in 170+ is rare β€” but it's still one too many.

More updates soon.
